We strive to minimize our footprint when buying and decommissioning hardware. We weigh the advantages of new efficient equipment, towards performance, possible other usage, and the climate impact of buying newly produced electronics. Usually, extended usage in a less performance-hungry application is the best choice since production comes with high environmental costs. With our high redundancy, we can do so without risks. When decommissioning hardware, we do so in a controlled fashion, both in terms of data security and from a sustainable perspective.
We encourage employees to work from home to minimize daily transportation, and with our “work-where-you-want” policy, traveling is low. When we do travel, we choose trains and bikes where possible.
We have been working remotely in parts for more than fifteen years, which smooths our internal processes for all sorts of communications. With the pandemic, the rest of the world learned about digital meetings, and we have implemented this fully and moved more than nine out of ten meetings to become remote.
