Publish video to WordPress

How to publish video in WordPress?

It is very easy to publish video from Streamio in WordPress.

Here we go through the most common ways to do it. It works both for videos uploaded to Streamio and for live streaming of, for example, webinars.

Different ways to publish

With Streamio short links

The absolute easiest way is to embed Streamio’s shortcodes. You just need to copy a video shortlink and paste it into the WordPress editor. These work in many different CMS systems because the links have so-called oEmbed information in them. It’s as simple as that!

Streamios iFrame in WordPress

Using iFrame is no longer necessary in WordPress, but works great with “Custom HTML” if you want that control. Add a Custom HTML block by typing /htm and selecting Custom HTML from the drop-down menu. Then paste your iFrame code and switch to Preview.

Elementor in WordPress

Video element

Elementor’s video element is very restrictive and only supports a few video platforms. It is a limitation of Elementor that it does not support, for example, oEmbed for its video object. This has some disadvantages we described below, therefore we recommend the HTML element.

Do this:

It is still possible to use video elements by pasting a direct link from Streamio.

  • Download the direct link in the appropriate format from the “Advanced” tab of the video in Streamio (just copy).
  • Create a video element in Elementor and select “self hosted” and “external URL” and paste the Streamio file there.

Using video elements in Elementor has the following disadvantages:

  • Viewers only get access to one quality of video.
  • Advanced features of Streamio’s player, such as subtitles or chapters, are not supported in the HTML5 player that Elementor then uses.

HTML element

With Elementor’s HTML elements, you can paste Streamio and use Streamio’s own video player that supports many more features than the HTML5 player (accessibility such as subtitles, chapters, speed and much more).

Do this:

Just copy Streamio iFrame code into an HTML object and you’re done!

WordPress media library or Streamio?

Using Streamio instead of storing videos directly in the WordPress media library has many advantages and we do not recommend storing videos directly in the WordPress media library.

Faster

  • The browser doesn’t have to download the video, but can “stream” it directly from Streamio, which is faster and better with less pauses for buffering.
  • It is faster to “jump in the video” for those who, for example, want to click far ahead in the video, as streaming can be resumed from a specific location without the entire movie being downloaded.

Better

  • Streamio adapts videos to play at a size that is appropriate for the viewer. This allows viewers with poor performance to have a good experience. Normally, everyone gets the same video via the media library.
  • With streaming, video is downloaded based on the viewer’s connection and device and as they watch. Media library videos are often downloaded in their entirety even after the viewer has left, which costs bandwidth.
  • Video files are large and even if they can be accommodated in a web hosting account, the data traffic on the account can run out and require updates.

More flexible

  • The same video, or live stream, can easily be published in multiple ways (e.g. in newsletters) and from Streamio you can send out short links, publish QR codes and publish to other platforms too.
  • The same video can be published on several websites and if you change websites, you can easily move the content to the new website.
